The Ohio Born Paisley Park artist whose first professional musical endeavours were as backing singer for Teena Marie on Prince’s Dirty Mind tour, she soon defected from the support to join the headlining act. Jill quickly established herself as part of Prince’s Minneapolis musical legacy and after providing backing vocals on various Prince releases concentrated on a solo project released through Prince’s Paisley Park label. Her Self titled 1986 debut album is to date one of the park’s most exciting releases containing the singles, ‘Mia Bocca’, the music for which first appeared in Prince’s second movie ‘Under The Cherry Moon’ and ‘G Spot’ it provided a promising platform on which to capitalise.
Jill has recently finished recording her follow up set in London, produced by ex Human League and Heaven 17 member Martyn Ware who has so far scored major production successes with Tina Turner and Terence Trent D’Arby. Music business inside sources claim that the album, as yet with no scheduled release date, contains two potential world wide No l’s. The last vinyl release from Jill Jones was ‘The Ground You Walk On’ produced by Nile Rogers and taken from the soundtrack of Vestron pictures ‘Earth Girls Are Easy’. Watch out for Jill’s own celluloid excursions in the near future as she is rumoured to be following up her ‘Purple Rain’ debut with a role in one of Paisley Park’s new film projects.
