ive always and still do my songs the mpls way now it seems that cats now are coming back to it my next cd will be featuring that sexy funky sound that prince andre jesse the time mazarati sheila e all them cats did gonna be hella funky
Ah excuse me but he was before Jesse Johnson. In case you didn’t know jesse’s got a new cd out called “verbal penetration”. I love the part in this song when A.C. says ” I’m not dressed at all but U have on a camasol in red”. Do you know if A.C. has any new music online or anyway?
I always loved this song. My favorite AC song! One of the funkiest synth and drum combinations ever! Loving It ! This was from a time when Music was from the soul.
AC sad he never recieved th accalodes that he deseved. Too bad he vicariously did it Through J. Whatley. Great musician. Ac and Prince should do something and save todays music. Todays music needs Talent and these two guys can be a great motivators to musician out there to use their God’s gift .
WOW! Very good! I only heard of him through Prince’s music but he has a lot of talent too! I wish I heard these tunes years ago! They are super funky!!!!
AC is imo the only bassist capable of doing excatly what Prince wanted. THey grew up together and learned the techniques to playing bass and guitar together. This is the main reason they sound similar. Prince gest credit for everything because he and made it famous.
Good ol’ classic New Wave/Punk/Funk from the bass ace! You know that TV One show they got now about old school artists that never got their props, “Unsung”? Andre should be featured on an episode.
@therealsoulproduct Um this ain’t no goddamn Punk Funk, this is new wave! Prince & his clique had the new wave thang down. My other idol besides Stevie Wonder (Rick James) & The Stone City Citizens had the lock on Punk Funk! Sorry for the language in the 1st sentence, but i’m frustrated as hell with Rick James not getting his just due.
@mrinnervisionz Of course Rick was the man when it came to Punk/Funk. But I believe (and you don’t have to) Andre did it just as well. Listen to some of the other tracks on this album like “Ritz Club”. It was the same sort of blend of New Wave, Punk, and Funk. But it was all good stuff.
Y’all right about Rick James contributions to Nu Wave R&B sound and genre Prince and the Minneapolis Bands did take a lot of the credit when the Bark- Kays released “Nightcruising” in and Rick James with “Street Songs” in 1981 and they were working the Punk/Funk Nu Wave genre along with Funakdelic’s Electric Spanking of War Babies in 1980.
This song described my high schoolgirlfriend relationship perfectly, back in the summer of 1982 when it come out. We lived about 12 miles apart, and we could only see each other once or twice a month. Didn’t have a ride yet, Because of that we talked on the phone alot. She was extremely pretty, and I never saw her often enough. We made it work for a year or so, but I never forgot her. Guess that is why I always liked this song!
Last I heard from his cousin, Andre is still doing a lot of production and writing for soundtracks and stuff in L.A. (just like Prince’s other bandmates, Wendy and Lisa) Any chance he’ll return to making his own stuff? Who knows?
S-curls,10 speed bikes, chico sticks, penny loafers, break dancing,When Prince was Prince, using a 100 safety pins to make a fashion statement on your shirt, sneaking in the alley to kiss that special girl during that crazy summer of 84,makes you wanna recapture it all back if only for one day..*(sigh)
MPLS sound, yeah!
Incroyable! This music and lyrics sound even better than they did 25 years ago!!
I use to have this album. This is one of my favorite songs
he sounds like jesse johnson
There were rumors that Prince sang everything for all his proteges and then synthesized it.
not true
Andre Cymone, Mazarati, The Family, Vanity 6, all great stuff.
Why isn’t any of this on iTunes? I’m sure it would be a big sell.
Man I really miss this old stuff sometimes.
It was a rumor only. I could tell the voice of Andre, Jesse, Morris, Dez, etc.
